and some more...
There are lot of inconsistencies in our ->search calls. We could
simplify some of them, but not in this patch. Here we want to prevent
regressions as much as possible and so don't add unecessary changes.

On bug 17591 we discovered that there was something weird going on with
the way we export and use subroutines/modules.
This patch tries to standardize our EXPORT to use EXPORT_OK only.
That way we will need to explicitely define the subroutine we want to
use from a module.
This patch is a squashed version of:
Bug 17600: After export.pl
Bug 17600: After perlimport
Bug 17600: Manual changes
Bug 17600: Other manual changes after second perlimports run
Bug 17600: Fix tests
And a lot of other manual changes.
export.pl is a dirty script that can be found on bug 17600.
"perlimport" is:
git clone https://github.com/oalders/App-perlimports.git
cd App-perlimports/
cpanm --installdeps .
export PERL5LIB="$PERL5LIB:/kohadevbox/koha/App-perlimports/lib"
find . \( -name "*.pl" -o -name "*.pm" \) -exec perl App-perlimports/script/perlimports --inplace-edit --no-preserve-unused --filename {} \;
The ideas of this patch are to:
* use EXPORT_OK instead of EXPORT
* perltidy the EXPORT_OK list
* remove '&' before the subroutine names
* remove some uneeded use statements
* explicitely import the subroutines we need within the controllers or
modules
Note that the private subroutines (starting with _) should not be
exported (and not used from outside of the module except from tests).
EXPORT vs EXPORT_OK (from
https://www.thegeekstuff.com/2010/06/perl-exporter-examples/)
"""
Export allows to export the functions and variables of modules to user’s namespace using the standard import method. This way, we don’t need to create the objects for the modules to access it’s members.
@EXPORT and @EXPORT_OK are the two main variables used during export operation.
@EXPORT contains list of symbols (subroutines and variables) of the module to be exported into the caller namespace.
@EXPORT_OK does export of symbols on demand basis.
"""
If this patch caused a conflict with a patch you wrote prior to its
push:
* Make sure you are not reintroducing a "use" statement that has been
removed
* "$subroutine" is not exported by the C4::$MODULE module
means that you need to add the subroutine to the @EXPORT_OK list
* Bareword "$subroutine" not allowed while "strict subs"
means that you didn't imported the subroutine from the module:
- use $MODULE qw( $subroutine list );
You can also use the fully qualified namespace: C4::$MODULE::$subroutine

There was a mismatch between "value" and "attribute". Before this
patchset, "value" was sometimes used, but then it comes "attribute" to
match the DB column's name.
We must keep both here, when an upgrade is done we could have "value"
that is still in the borrower_modifications.extended_attributes JSON

A patron is not able to clear their date of birth.
When cleared tt is set to NULL in DB which means, for the patron's
modifications feature, that nothing has been changed.
Test plan:
0/ Do not apply the patch
1/ Edit your personal details at the OPAC
2/ Add a date of birth
3/ On the staff interface, approve the modification request
=> OK it is updated
4/ Edit your personal details and clear the date of birth
5/ On the staff interface
=> KO the table display is wrong, nothing is marked has changed
6/ Approve the modification requiest
=> KO it has not been cleared
7/ Apply the patch and repeat 1 to 6 and confirm that the behaviors are
now correct.

Internal server error while approving OPAC-edited patron attributes
containing umlauts (äöü)
If a OPAC user enters text containing umlauts (äöü) in a patron atribute
and saves it, the Staff client will get an inernal server error in
members-update.pl (approving).
E.g. a text like 111ä222 leads to the following in plack error log:
malformed UTF-8 character in JSON string, at character offset 14
To test:
- Reproduce problem above
- Apply patch
- Verify that Home > Patron > Update records displays without error
and 'New value' displays properly
- Approve!
Also, run the tests:
- Run:
$ sudo koha-shell kohadev
k$ cd kohaclone
k$ prove t/db_dependent/Koha/Patron/Modifications.t
=> FAIL: Tests explode due to encoding problems in JSON handling
- Apply the patch
- Run the tests again:
k$ prove t/db_dependent/Koha/Patron/Modifications.t
=> SUCCESS: Tests pass!

This patch makes Koha::Patron::Modification->store delete the passed
attributes that contain empty values.
This is the way it currently works, as all opac-editable attributes are
presented to the end-user and they are allowed to delete them, and the
best way I found to represent the deletion on the modification request
is by setting it to the empty string. I chose this way because it is how
the staff interface handles it, so it is consistent.

- Apply this patch

$ prove t/db_dependent/Koha/Patron/Modifications.t

As reported by Owen, the members-update.pl was showing every attributes
the patron has (display issue) instead of showing only those affected by
the changes.
This patch fixes this by filtering the patron's attributes by opac
editability.
It also fixes Koha::Patron::Modification->approve so it only clears the
attributes with the updating 'code' and leaves the others untouched.
As its been coded so far (until someone refactors it all) the
Koha::Patron::Modification object needs to contain all the attributes
for a specific code. And it comes from parsing the UI's input.
Tests for Koha::Patron::Modification->approve to come.

This patch makes Koha::Patron::Modification aware of the new extended_attributes
column, which is expected to contain valid JSON data.
The ->store method is modified so it validates the field value (i.e. the content
is decoded using the JSON library) and raises a convenient exception in case of
failure.
This behaviour change is covered by the provided unit tests.

This patch changes the exception name to match the package name. And
also adds a test for the thrown exception message.
Also creates a general Koha::Exception::Patron::Modification exception
to make the new one inherit from it, following the common use in the codebase.

This bug is the beginning of a conversion from our current bespoke
syntax for slips and notices to Template Toolkit syntax.
This patch is the initial seed which will evolve over time.
With this addition, we can take advantage of our Koha Objects
to greatly simplify the processing of Slips and Notices over time.
Test Plan:
1) Apply this patch
2) Ensure you have the default CHECKOUT notice
3) Check out and return an item for a patron
4) Note the text of the CHECKOUT notice
5) Replace your CHECKOUT notice with the following:
The following items have been checked out:
----
[% biblio.title %]
----
Thank you for visiting [% branch.branchname %].
6) Repeat step 3
7) Note the CHECKOUT notice text matches the previous CHECKOUT notice text
